New York has become the first state to mandate up to 20 hours of paid prenatal leave for employers by 2025, aiming to make paid leave for pregnant women a national women's health initiative. Washington D.C. has a similar law, and the federal government's Family and Medical Leave Act provides unpaid leave for prenatal care. Despite existing paid family leave, only 2% of eligible workers take advantage.
