19-year-old Mount Kenya University student Faith Musembi was found murdered in her rented room in Thika, after her family claims the police failed to rescue her from kidnappers. Her father, Boniface Musembi, said they received a ransom call and sent Ksh27,000, but the attacker demanded more money and the police dismissed his pleas for help. The family accuses the Thika police of negligence in their daughter's case.
