84-year-old Mary Banotti, former Fine Gael MEP and co-founder of Women's Aid, passed away.
Former Fine Gael MEP Mary Banotti, known for her trailblazing work, has passed away at the age of 84. Born in Clontarf, Dublin, Banotti was a nurse in the US, London, Canada and Kenya before beginning her career in politics. A co-founder of Women's Aid, she also served as chairperson of the Rutland Centre for Drug Abuse. Taoiseach Simon Harris praised Banotti's impact, vision, and determination, remembering her as a "talented politician, a trailblazer and a joy to be around."
