30-year-old Boston Red Sox DH Masataka Yoshida will not need surgery for his injured thumb, but will be out of action for several weeks, according to a third medical opinion. Yoshida, who is in the second year of a five-year, $90M contract, will not swing a bat during this period and continue treatment. He was placed on the 10-day injured list on May 1 after a left thumb strain during a game on April 28.
