Philippines sends ships to disputed South China Sea area over China's "artificial island" building.

The Philippines has sent ships to a disputed area in the South China Sea where it accuses China of building an "artificial island." The coast guard deployed a ship to monitor China's activities, while two other vessels were placed in rotational deployment in the area. Philippine Coast Guard spokesperson Commodore Jay Tarriela said there has been "small-scale reclamation" at Sabina Shoal, which Manila calls Escoda, with China being the "most probable actor." The Chinese embassy in Manila has not yet responded to the Philippine assertions.
