India forecasts record low closing cotton stocks of 20 lakh bales (170 kg each) in the upcoming season, according to the Cotton Association of India (CAI). This is due to higher domestic consumption and new mills coming up. CAI also estimates India's cotton exports to surge 27% to 28 lakh bales during the 2023-24 crop year ending September, up from 22 lakh bales in the previous season.
