Guyana Teachers' Union seeks arbitration for salary negotiations; strike aims to force government agreement.

Guyana Teachers' Union (GTU) President Dr. Mark Lyte said the union is ready for arbitration over stalled salary talks with the Ministry of Education. The GTU is seeking a 25% increase in 2019 and 20% for 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023, while the government has offered a new multi-year agreement from 2024 instead. The teachers' strike is aimed at forcing the government to agree to arbitration.
