Ethiopia and Djibouti have officially taken over the management of the Ethio-Djibouti Railway after six years of commercial operations. The $4B railway, completed in 2018, has carried 530,900 passengers and 7.3M metric tons of cargo. Constructed under China's Belt and Road Initiative, the 750-km line aims to promote regional integration, boost trade, and drive economic growth. It has also created thousands of local job opportunities, fully localizing its workforce.
