During Mental Health Awareness Month, CCHR protested coercive mental health practices in NY, coinciding with the APA convention, and demanded implementation of a human rights-focused guidance.
During Mental Health Awareness Month, Citizens Commission on Human Rights (CCHR) raised awareness against coercive mental health practices, including forced institutionalization and use of electroshock (ECT) on children. The group marched in New York, timed with the American Psychiatric Association's annual convention, and presented its Psychiatry: An Industry of Death Exhibit to highlight the dangers of certain psychiatric practices. CCHR demands immediate action from the APA to implement the joint Guidance on Mental Health, Human Rights, and Legislation issued in October 2023.
