Pakistan's PM Shehbaz Sharif has approved amendments to the 2016 Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) to regulate social media. The proposed amendments include establishing the Digital Rights Protection Agency (DRPA) under the PECA Act of 2024, which will be responsible for investigating social media law breaches and taking appropriate actions against offenders. The Ministry of Information Technology will oversee the implementation of the DRPA. The amendment will be presented in Parliament following Cabinet approval.
