2024 Minnesota summer air quality expected worse than normal, with more alerts due to high temperatures and increased wildfires.
Minnesota's summer air quality is expected to be worse than normal but better than 2023, according to the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA). The state is anticipated to see more air quality alerts than usual, caused by higher-than-average temperatures and an increased number of wildfires. The MPCA forecasts more than seven alerts this summer, compared to an average of five to seven per year. Last year, Minnesota experienced 52 air quality alert days, with 16 due to wildfire smoke.
