5.8 magnitude earthquake off Taiwan's east coast: A 5.8 magnitude earthquake took place off Taiwan's east coast on May 10, near Hualien county at a depth of 10 km. Buildings in the capital, Taipei, were shaken but no immediate damage was reported. Since a 7.2 magnitude quake in Hualien last month, Taiwan has experienced around 1,400 aftershocks, with 17 casualties.
