In April, Congress reauthorized Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA), allowing government access to communications data targeting foreign persons outside the US. Despite privacy concerns and the FBI's issues adhering to court-approved procedures, Congress extended the FISA 702 authority until April 19, 2024, with added safeguards and rules for sensitive investigations. Privacy advocates remain unsatisfied with the amendments.
