Canfor permanently closes Polar sawmill in BC and suspends Houston reinvestment due to fibre shortage and challenging conditions.

Forestry company Canfor has announced the permanent closure of its Polar sawmill in Bear Lake, BC, and the suspension of its planned reinvestment in Houston, BC, due to a decline in available economic fibre and challenging operating conditions in the region. The company is also shutting a production line at its Northwood Pulp Mill in Prince George, impacting 400 jobs. Canfor cited a shortage of fibre and a drop in harvest levels, partly due to natural disturbances and policy/regulation changes, as reasons for these closures.
