British Airways owner IAG reports a sevenfold increase in profits for the first quarter of 2024, driven by strong demand for leisure travel and reduced fuel costs. The company reported an operating profit of €68m (£58.5m) for Q1, up from €9m (£7.7m) in the same period last year. Total revenues also increased by 9.2% to €5.5bn, benefiting from the ongoing post-pandemic recovery in overseas holidays and the Easter bank holiday weekend falling earlier than usual.
