Australian government adds funding for extended gynaecological consultations, including endometriosis treatment, from July 2023.
The Australian government has announced extra funding for the treatment of complex gynaecological conditions, including endometriosis, which affects one in nine Australian women. From July 1 next year, women will have access to longer specialist consultations covered by Medicare, with two new items added to the Medicare Benefits Schedule. This will enable extended consultation times and increased rebates for specialist gynaecological care, providing approximately 430,000 more services for women across the country to receive consultations of 45 minutes or longer.
