US court orders Mitsubishi Motors to pay $1bn in damages over a 2017 car accident involving a defective seatbelt.
Japan's Mitsubishi Motors has been ordered by a US court to pay $1.01bn in damages over a 2017 car accident in the US. The plaintiff, whose husband was severely injured in a crash, blamed a defective seatbelt design in his 1992 Mitsubishi 3000GT. The court in Philadelphia County ordered Mitsubishi Motors to pay $976m, as well as $33m in delay damages. Mitsubishi Motors plans to appeal the decision.
