Saudi authorities authorized lethal force to clear land for the Neom development project, resulting in villager deaths and imprisonments.

Saudi authorities have reportedly authorized lethal force to clear land for the Neom development project, a futuristic eco-city in the desert. A former Saudi intelligence officer, Colonel Rabih Alenezi, has claimed that he was ordered to evict villagers from land intended for the Neom project, with at least one villager killed and several more imprisoned after refusing to give up their land. Neom is part of Saudi Vision 2030, aiming to diversify the economy away from oil.
