Nantucket residents voted against short-term rental permit.

Nantucket residents voted down a proposal on Tuesday night to permit short-term rentals in residential zoning districts, marking the fourth year of debate on the issue. The island, known for its pricey real estate and popular vacation destination, currently has over 9,000 homes used as vacation rentals. The zoning bylaw amendment, which required a two-thirds majority to pass, received 713 votes in favor and 782 against.
