Kenyan President Ruto announces school reopening on May 13th after postponing due to flooding.
Kenyan President William Ruto announced that all schools will reopen on Monday, May 13th, after initially suspending reopening due to heavy rains and flooding. The decision comes after improved weather forecasts indicated that heavy rains would subside. Schools were initially set to reopen on April 29th, but the date was postponed first to May 6th and then to May 13th due to flooding that caused 238 deaths and displaced thousands. The government will provide funds for the reconstruction of damaged school infrastructure.
