China's small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) experienced improved business performance in April, with the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Index rising to 89.4 from 89.3 in March. Although still below the benchmark of 100, the index demonstrated growth compared to the same period in 2022 and 2023. Sub-indexes for construction, transportation, post and storage, retail and wholesale, social services, information transmission, computer services, and software sectors all expanded in April.
