Washington Nationals have designated Matt Barnes, former Boston Red Sox reliever, for assignment after his performance this season. Barnes, 34, signed a minor-league deal with the Nationals earlier this year and posted a 6.75 ERA in 14 appearances. The team has five days to trade him or release him outright. Barnes spent nine seasons with the Red Sox and was part of their 2018 World Series team.
