Electricity distributor Powercor has been fined AUD 2.1 million for neglecting to inspect and trim vegetation under its powerlines, leading to a bushfire that destroyed 185 hectares of land, sheds, fences, and farming equipment in Glenmore, west of Melbourne in February 2023. The company pleaded guilty to over 100 charges for not managing risks and hazards to its electricity network and one charge related to the Glenmore fire. The maximum possible fine for the offenses was over AUD 3.8 million.
