New Zealand's Nurses Organisation conducts nationwide rallies for increased healthcare funding due to widespread understaffing.
New Zealand's Nurses Organisation (NZNO) is holding public rallies across the country, as part of their national Day of Action 2024, calling for increased healthcare funding in the Budget 2024. The NZNO has received data from Te Whatu Ora under the Official Information Act, revealing that over a quarter of nursing shifts in the year ending 31 December 2023 were below safe staffing targets, with some wards operating below safe staffing levels almost all the time. The understaffing crisis has led to concerns around nurse burnout, low pay, and health and safety issues at work.
