Kerala health officials confirm West Nile virus cases in three districts, increasing pre-monsoon cleaning and surveillance efforts.

Kerala health officials are on high alert after confirming West Nile virus (WNV) cases in three districts: Kozhikode, Malappuram, and Thrissur. Five cases have been identified, with four patients recovering and one remaining under treatment. The health department has directed districts to increase pre-monsoon cleaning drives and surveillance activities to prevent mosquito breeding and clean stagnant water sources. WNV is transmitted to humans through mosquito bites, with birds being the natural hosts of the virus. Human-to-human transmission is rare, but the virus can lead to severe consequences, including encephalitis, meningitis, or death.
