Kenya's President William Ruto declares a public holiday and national tree-planting day to mourn flood disaster victims, with over 235,000 displaced and 1,000+ schools affected.

Kenya's President William Ruto has declared a public holiday on Friday to mourn the 238 people who have died in ongoing floods. The day will also be observed through national tree-planting activities to help mitigate climate change. Over 235,000 people have been displaced and are living in camps, while more than 1,000 schools have been affected by the heavy rains and flooding. The government is currently forcefully evacuating people living in flood-prone areas and near rivers and dams, as water levels in major hydroelectric dams rise to historic levels.
