Pet Valu Q1 profit down to $17.5M, from $18.7M last year, despite 4% revenue increase and 0.8% same-store sales rise.

Pet Valu Holdings Ltd., a pet food retailer, reported a Q1 profit of $17.5 million, down from $18.7 million last year, despite a 4% revenue increase to $260.8 million. Same-store sales rose 0.8% driven by a 3.2% increase in average spend per transaction, partly offset by a 2.3% drop in transactions. On an adjusted basis, Pet Valu earned 35 cents per diluted share, up from 32 cents last year.
