Nova Scotia Auditor General reports inadequate care for vulnerable children in temporary care and youth homes due to weak oversight.

Nova Scotia's Auditor General, Kim Adair, reports that vulnerable children in the province's temporary care and youth home network face inadequate care due to weak oversight. The report highlights a lack of regular contact between children and social workers, insufficient care plans, and missing accountability mechanisms in agreements between the Department of Community Services and care providers. Between 2021 and 2023, 271 children were placed in child and youth care homes, and 227 in temporary emergency arrangements, with some children staying for over eight months.
