ExxonMobil plans to move 60,000 tonnes of steel and waste from offshore oil & gas facilities to UN-listed wetlands in Gippsland for recycling in 2027. Exxon intends to transform Barry Beach Marine Terminal, adjacent to Wilsons Promontory, into a decommissioning center for oil & gas platforms. The federal government requires Exxon to refer plans to the Environment Department if it believes significant impacts to the wetlands may occur.
