Environment Canterbury (ECan) Chairperson Peter Scott stood down pending an investigation after media reports claimed his delayed consent applications for irrigation led to "illegal" farming activity. Farmer Daryl Butterick criticized the hypocritical situation, as some farmers face similar delays in obtaining water diversion approvals. Scott's investigation will be conducted by an independent external reviewer, with Deputy Chairperson Craig Pauling as acting Chairperson.
