During May's Wildfire Awareness Month, Oregon State Fire Marshal urges residents to create defensible spaces around their homes to protect against increasing wildfire frequency and intensity. Recommendations include modifying vegetation, removing debris within 100 feet of buildings, cleaning roofs and gutters, and maintaining yard plants. The Oregon State Fire Marshal offers free defensible space assessments and for a limited time, eligible residents may receive a $250 payment after receiving an assessment.
