Construction begins on $147M NOAA Atlantic operations center at Naval Station Newport, Rhode Island, housing 15 research ships and creating 200 jobs.

Construction on a state-of-the-art, $147 million National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Atlantic operations center has begun at Naval Station Newport in Rhode Island. The new Marine Operations Center-Atlantic (MOC-A) will be the home of NOAA's fleet of 15 research and survey ships, and will feature a new pier, floating dock, space for vessel repairs, a building for shoreside support, and a warehouse. The project is expected to create 200 jobs and expand Rhode Island's role as an ocean-tech hub.
