Adult female elephant killed by train exceeding speed limit near Kanjikode, Palakkad; 2nd incident in a month.

An adult female elephant was hit and killed by a train near Kanjikode, Palakkad, making it the second such incident within a month. Kerala Forest Minister A K Saseendran stated that preliminary investigation suggests the train exceeded the stipulated speed limit, and a case was lodged against the loco pilot under relevant provisions of the Wildlife Act. The speed limit in the area is 45 kmph, regulated by the High Court.
