17-year-olds Ne'Kiya Jackson and Calcea Johnson from St. Mary's Academy, New Orleans, solved a 2,000-year-old math puzzle by providing new proofs for the Pythagorean Theorem using trigonometry. Their achievement, part of a school-wide math contest, has earned a $500 prize and encouragement to present their work at a math conference. They have continued to work on further proofs in college.
