Researchers create Tourette-like mice using CRISPR/Cas9 for studying neurobiology and testing new medications.
Researchers at Rutgers University have created mice with Tourette-like traits using CRISPR/Cas9 DNA editing. The genetically engineered mice display repetitive motor behaviors and sensorimotor gating deficits, similar to humans with Tourette disorder. These mice could help study the neurobiology of Tourette disorder and test new medications, as current treatments lack specific medications for the condition.
