In Q1 2023, New Zealand's red meat exports dropped 5% to $2.58bn, mainly due to weak pricing and demand in China, although exports to the US increased by 11% to $658m. The Meat Industry Association reports that chilled sheepmeat and beef exports increased during the quarter, with UK and Japan showing signs of recovery. However, exports to China fell 27% to $796m, reaching their lowest level since 2018.
