Panama's new president-elect, Jose Raul Mulino, has vowed to shut down key migrant routes used by hundreds of thousands of illegal migrants entering the US, particularly the Darien Gap, a vast jungle area on the Panama-Colombia border. Mulino, who was elected on a conservative platform, also pledges to crack down on drug cartels and promote a pro-private enterprise, pro-investment government.
