NSW police to be granted knife-scanning authority in busy areas under Minns government plan.

New South Wales (NSW) police will be granted the power to scan people for knives in busy areas like shopping centres and transport hubs after a series of high-profile stabbings. The Minns government plans to tighten knife possession laws, including a ban on selling knives to under-18s unless they need one for work or study. NSW will develop legislation based on Queensland's "Jack's Law," which allows police to "wand" or "scan" people for knives without a warrant in designated areas.
