Sierra Nevada records its snowiest day of the season on Sunday, setting a single-day snowfall record with 26.4 inches (67 cm) falling in some areas. The storm drenched the San Francisco Bay Area, closed Northern California mountain highways, and left roads slick with around two feet (60 cm) of snow in some locations. This is the first time in recent history that the National Weather Service Reno issued a Winter Storm Warning in May.
