MIT has reportedly discontinued the requirement for diversity statements in applications for new faculty positions, marking a significant shift for colleges that have embraced diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives. The elimination of diversity statements was considered a potential political litmus test for hiring. MIT President Sally Kornbluth implemented the policy change with the support of the Provost, Chancellor, and all six academic deans.
