Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh praised the Indian Navy's efforts in foreign waters, calling them a "miracle". The Navy has assisted merchant ships in the Western Indian Ocean, Gulf of Aden, and Red Sea following attacks. Singh hinted at the government's consideration of the Navy's proposal for a second aircraft carrier. India's first indigenously-built carrier, INS Vikrant, was commissioned in September 2021.
