Heritage NSW reports non-compliant redevelopment projects in Newcastle due to missing final archaeological reports.

Heritage NSW reported that several major developments in Newcastle, Australia, failed to produce final archaeological reports, resulting in negative heritage outcomes. The organization, a division of the state Department of Planning, is unable to identify non-compliant redevelopment projects due to privacy issues. The issue came to light after Heritage NSW wrote to the City of Newcastle regarding Iris Capital's EastEnd project redevelopment, requiring Iris to submit all final archaeological excavation reports before being granted an occupation certificate for stages three and four.
