Gunman Joel Escorial, who confessed to killing critic Percy Lapid, is sentenced to 8-16 years in prison by the Las Piñas Regional Trial Court.

Self-confessed gunman Joel Escorial in the murder of broadcaster Percy Lapid, a critic of the Duterte and Marcos Jr. administrations, has been sentenced to eight years and eight months to 16 years in prison by the Las Piñas Regional Trial Court. Escorial admitted that the order to kill Lapid came from inside the New Billibid Prison. The court's decision comes over a year after Lapid's death and despite Escorial's attempt to seek a lower penalty via a plea bargain deal.
