Glowing 'ghost mushrooms' bloom on Central Coast, emitting light through biochemical process.

Glowing "ghost mushrooms" have been spotted on the Central Coast, emitting a soft light from their gills. Photographer Colin Douglas captured images of the mushrooms, which create their own light through a chemical reaction similar to fireflies, involving the compounds luciferin and an enzyme. The wet and cooler conditions have contributed to a bloom of these unique fungi.
