German Chancellor Olaf Scholz pledged Germany's unwavering support for the Baltic states and announced Berlin's commitment to defend NATO-allied territory against any new threats. As part of this commitment, Germany is set to permanently deploy a Bundeswehr brigade of around 4,800 soldiers to Lithuania, a first for post-war Germany outside its borders. The troops will start to arrive in 2025 and will reach full fighting readiness in 2027.
