Eskom sues City Power for a R1 billion ($65m) debt threatening financial stability.

Eskom, South Africa's national power supplier, has filed a lawsuit against City Power, the power utility for Johannesburg, over a debt of over R1 billion ($65m). The debt, which has escalated since October 2023, threatens Eskom's financial stability and its ability to maintain essential infrastructure and meet growing energy demands in the region. Eskom has applied to the Gauteng High Court in Johannesburg for a declaratory order to force City Power to pay its debt, with the case set to be heard on 4 June.
