China's ASO-S satellite detects higher-than-expected white-light solar flares, potentially impacting space weather and communication systems.
China's ASO-S satellite, also known as Kuafu-1, detected over 100 solar white-light flares since its October 2022 launch. These flares, emitting high-energy radiation, can impact space weather, disrupting ground communication and spacecraft operations. ASO-S researchers discovered a 24% occurrence rate, higher than previous data, and plan to analyze data from multiple satellites to improve space weather forecasting.
