Bombay High Court stays Maharashtra government's exemption for private schools from RTE 25% quota, ruling it violates 2009 Education Act and Constitution.

Bombay High Court has stayed Maharashtra government's exemption notification for private schools located within 1 km radius of a government-run or aided school from the Right to Education (RTE) 25% quota for economically disadvantaged students. The court ruled that the move contravenes the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act 2009, saying it is "prima facie" ultra vires to the Constitution. The case will be heard again on May 7.
