85-year-old aviation pioneer Dick Rutan, known for his Vietnam War service and record-setting nonstop round-the-world flight in 1986 with copilot Jeana Yeager, passed away. The light graphite Voyager plane, designed by his brother Burt, completed the journey in nine days and three minutes, earning a Presidential Citizens Medal for each pilot. Rutan also set another record in 2005 with a rocket-powered plane mail delivery.
