On May 3rd, an overnight disturbance at Shelby County's main jail (201 Poplar) resulted in damage to cell doors and objects set on fire. Inmates barricaded the main door with bedsheets but were peacefully secured by sheriffs and deputies using a chemical agent. Four inmates sustained non-critical injuries, were treated, and returned to the facility. The incident led to calls for a new jail and increased corrections personnel.
